19th NSF: Imo, Kogi, Delta, Enugu and Ogun scale through the second round

Oluchi Ozurumba of Imo, Patience Onebamhon and Bukky Olowu of Kogi on Monday in Abuja scaled through the second round of female category of lawn tennis in the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF).

Ozurumba beat Ekiti’s Omolayo Bamidele 7-6(4), 0-6, 6-0 to win the match while Kogi’s Onebamhon beat her Lagos opponent Udoh Peace 6-0, 6-0.

Similarly, another Kogi representative, Bukky Olowu stunned her Bayelsa counterpart, Fortune Aniso, 6-0, 6-3.

Also Mary Tenu-Michael of Delta crushed Khadijat Salami of Ekiti 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the third round.

In the same vein, Stella Udokwelu of Enugu got her victory over Esther Lasoju of Lagos with 6-3, 6-1.

Ogun’s Ramota Odeyemi defeated her Niger counterpart, Blessing Danjuma 7-6(8), 6-2 to advance to the third round.

Speaking, Arinola Abiodun, chief Referee of the lawn tennis in the National Sports Festival (NSF) said that the there was no challenge so far.

Abiodun said that the tennis competitions would be one of the best in terms of officiating hence she expressed confidence in the officials.

She, however, called on the players to be focused, adding that, that was the secret of success.

According to her, those players seen as underdogs are likely going to spring surprises because they are ready to make names, so those with big names should watch out. (NAN)
