TWO men: Friday Omoniyi, 38, and Shehu Aliyu, 65, were on Monday docked before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen car and car accessory.

The defendants, whose addresses were unknown, are facing a two-count charge of receiving a stolen car and its accessory.

The prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that one of the defendants, Friday Omoniyi, committed the offence on Feb.4 at 1300 hours in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant, Friday Omoniyi, dishonestly received one stolen Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number: APP 03 EP valued N600,000 from one Mustapha Shehu, belonging to one Atiku Malami.

Oriyomi also alleged that the second defendant, Shehu Aliyu, committed the offence on Sept.11 at 1400 hours at Ado Area Commander’s office in Ado-Ekiti.

He told the court that the defendant became an accessory to an offence by voluntarily standing surety for Mustapha Shehu knowing that he had committed an offence by stealing a Toyota Sienna vehicle.

The prosecutor added that the defendant committed the offence with the intention to prevent and frustrate Mustapha Shehu’s arraignment for the offence.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 427 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses. The defendants pleaded not guilty.

The counsel to the first defendant, Mr Michael Olaleye, and the second defendant, Mr Emmanuel Folayan, both urged the court to grant the defendants bail, promising that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, in her ruling granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each in like sum. She adjourned the case until Oct.5 for hearing. (NAN)
