2 docked for alleged theft of solar batteries worth N2.4m

THE police on Friday arraigned one Emmanuel Idoko and Richard Emenike before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Ado-Ekiti, for alleged stealing of 12 solar batteries valued N2.4 million.

The prosecution arraigned Idoko, 25, for alleged conspiracy and stealing of the 12 batteries while Emenike, 40, was charged for alleged conspiracy and for receiving nine out of the 12 batteries from Idoko.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leramo told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences sometimes in July, 2022 about 6:00 p.m at Ado-Ekiti.

Leramo said that the batteries belonged to one Oluwaleye Ajiboye.

He told the court the nine batteries received by Emenike were worth N1.8 million.

The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened Sections 421, 295 and 343 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti, 2021.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Leramo, however, urged the court for an adjournment to enable him prepare properly for the case.

Mr Ekene Nbam, Defence Counsel to Idoko, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

Mr Chris Omokhafe, Counsel to Emenike, also appealed for bail in favour of his client.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr S. O. Afunso, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in the like sum.

Afunso ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and must swear to affidavit of means.

He adjourned the case until Oct.6 for hearing. (NAN)
