TWO men, who allegedly burgled a school store and stole two air conditioners and aluminium profiles valued at N2 million, on Thursday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants, Jiga Mohammed, 28, a security guard and Uche Nwankpa, 30, a driver, reside in Egbeda, Lagos, and are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offences were committed on Sept. 4 at Eduland School, Bakery bus stop, Egbeda, Lagos.

Odugbo said that the defendants were working with the school.

He said that the management discovered that the school store was broken and that two air conditioners had been stolen.

The prosecutor said that the defendants also stolen aluminium profiles and iron rods, all valued at N2 million, property of the school.

“The first defendant, who is the security man, could not account for the stolen items and it was later discovered that he and the second defendant conspired to steal the items,” Odugbo said.

The offences, according Odugbo, contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.F. Onamusi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Onamusi, thereafter, adjourned the case till Nov. 30, for mention. (NAN)
