2 estate agents in court for alleged N800,000 fraud

Two estate agents who allegedly defrauded their client of N800,000, on Wednesday appeared in an Upper Area Court, in Gwagwalada, FCT.

The police charged Murtala Yakubu, 39,  and Tukur Mohammed, 40, with three counts of joint act, criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecution counsel, Mr Abdullahi Tanko, told the the court that the complainant, Alhaji Musa Dankwairo of Suleja, Niger, reported the matter at the Gwagwalada police station on Feb. 5.

Tanko alleged that the complainant gave N800,000 to the defendants, who acted as agents, to assist him pay for a house he bought in Agwandodo, Gwagwalada, FCT.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79, 311 and 320 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Sani Umar admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N250,000 each with one reliable surety each in like sum.

Umar ruled that  the  sureties must be responsible community leader.

He however, ruled the defendants should be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre, if they failed to meet the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case until March 8 for hearing. (NAN)
