TWO men were on Wednesday docked in  a  Kado Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing vehicle spare parts worth N3.2 million.

The police charged Achayi Bitrius and Godwin Steven with joint act and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Helen Ochai, told the court that, on Oct.2, at about 2 p.m, the complainant Mr Taiwo Amos of Mechanic village Utako, Abuja reported the matter at Utako Police Station, Abuja.

Ochai, alleged that sometime in September, the defendants formed a criminal intent, broke into the complainant’s workshop container and stole  a Toyota gear box, alternators, pumping jack, top cylinder, clutch plate diesel.

He said they also stole tools, break caliper, complete engine wires, wheel hubs, driving shaft and others worth N3. 2million.

The offence, he said, contravened the provision of sections 79 and 288 of the penal code law.

The defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Defence Counsel Charity Nwosu prayed the court to grant her clients bail, citing sec 36(5) of the 1999 constitution as amended and 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

Nwosu told the court that an accused was still presumed innocent until proven guilty and assured the court that the defendants would not jump bail.

The prosecution counsel, however, did not oppose the prayers of the defense counsel further urged the court to use its discretion to grant the defendants bail.

The Presiding Judge, Muhammed Wakili, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum N1million with two sureties each in like sum.

Wakili, ordered that the sureties must be reliable with a means of livelihood and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He added that the sureties must also provide a BVN print out, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.

The Judge adjourned the matter until Dec.1, for hearing. (NAN)
