TWO applicants- Chimeze Anadi and Ibrahim Haruna, were on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into a shop and stole items worth N160,000.

The defendants, who reside at Papa-Ajao, Mushin, Lagos, are facing a three- count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, said the accused persons committed the alleged offences on May 30, at Sadiku, Mushin, Lagos.

He said that the accused persons conspired and burgled the shop of the complainant, Mrs Omolara Adeshola, and stole valuables worth N160,000.

“The accused destroyed the door of the complainant’s shop and stole a generator set valued at N100,000, DSTV decoder worth N10,000 and a box full of clothing materials worth N50, 000, totalling  N160,000,” he said.

Koti said that the accused were arrested by vigilance group.

“The accused were intercepted by the vigilance group in the neighbourhood.

“The stolen items were recovered and the accused were handed over to the police,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Sections 287, 307(C) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each as part of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned until June 20, for mention.
