2018 AYG: Shooting federation honours Dalung, Ambassador

LONSDALE Adeoye, President, Nigerian Shooting Federation (NSF), has decorated Solomon Dalung, Minister of Youths and Sports Development, with the federation’s insignia when he visited NSF team to African Youth Games (AYG) in Algiers, Algeria.

This event and the decoration of Demenongu Agev, Nigerian Ambassador to Algeria, were contained in a statement signed by Eche Amos, NSF Board member in charge of Media on Friday.

According to Adeoye, NSF uses such honour to appreciate individual and corporate contributions to the development of the sport.

“Customary in the Federation, the decoration of personalities with the insignia is a mark of honour and acknowledgement of their contributions to the sport of Shooting, whether in Nigeria or abroad,” he said.

Adeoye also lifted the spirit of the minister by assuring him that Team Nigeria Shooting would not only participate at the Algiers Youth Games, but win medals.

“That would aid our shooters get the minimum qualifying scores for the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, later in the year,” he said.

Also decorated with insignia during the minister’s visit to the team was Olusade Adesola, Permanent Secretary, of the ministry.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dalung and his entourage visited Team Nigeria, comprising delegates for 23 sports, at the Games slated for July 18 to July 28 in Algeria.

NAN also reports that Nigeria’s shooters have been undergoing vigorous trainings and upgrading in readiness for the main hostilities set to start from July 24 through Julu 26.

During the games, shooting sport would be held among seven countries at the Stand de tir Chenoua, Tipaza, about 75 kilometres from Algiers, capital of Algeria.

Seven countries, mostly from North Africa, are partaking in shooting sport at the ongoing AYG which will climax on July 28. (NAN)
