The Federal Capital Territory Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board has fixed Wednesday, June 27 as deadline for registration of 2018 intending pilgrims in the territory.
The Board’s Director, Malam Muhammad Bashir, made this known during a meeting with the management staff of the organisation, after reviewing the progress report of the 2018 hajj preparation.
Bashir said that the measure became necessary to enable the board abide by the deadline on registration of intending pilgrims set up by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
According to him, NAHCON had directed the board to complete the process of e-registration of all intending pilgrims by the end of June, 2018.
The director advised those who had paid deposit of their hajj fare and are yet to complete their balance to do so before the deadline.
He also urged those who are yet to submit their e-passport or National Identification Number (NIN), to do so before the expiration of the deadline or risk the chances of performing the hajj this year.
He explained that at the expiration of the deadline, the board would complete the process of registration for this year as directed by the NAHCON regardless of the number of intending pilgrims who completed the process.
Bashir said that the board has scheduled Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24, for medical screening of intending pilgrims who have either miss the earlier exercise or made payment after the first medical screening exercise.
He explained that the medical screening which would be conducted at the permanent hajj camp on the stipulated days would serve as the last chance for the intending pilgrims.
The director said that in order to enable intending pilgrims get the basic knowledge of the spiritual journey, the board has fixed Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1, for its third phase of education and orientation exercise.
He said that the board had conducted series of education and orientation exercises as well as medical screening before the commencement of Islamic month of Ramadan fasting.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 2,115 from FCT are expected to join over two million Muslims from around the world to perform the 2018 hajj. (NAN)
