A group,Coalition of Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders of Nigeria (CENYLON), on Sunday urged political stakeholders and other citizens to play their part to ensure the emergence of credible leadership in 2019.

CENYLON, the umbrella body of all youth ethnic groups in Nigeria, gave the advice in a statement in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the statement was jointly signed by CENYLON’s President, Mr Eric Oluwole and Dahiru Hassan, its Publicity Secretary.

According to the group, 2019 is a defining moment for Nigeria, and that the country must make the right leadership choice for progress.

CENYLON said it was considering supporting either President Muhammadu of the All Progressives Congress (APC)or the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the 2019 election

The group said it was considering criteria such as capacity to foster national unity, ability to promote peace, security and economic progress in choosing between the two leading contenders.

CENYLON said it held a meeting in Abuja on Sunday to deliberate on who to endorse between Atiku and Buhari for the presidency.

It said the meeting, attended by no fewer than 250 leaders of youth ethnic groups, followed series of consultations on the issue.

“We wish to assure fellow Nigerians that after due considerations, CENYLON shall make public our decisions and way forward on the matter.

“We hold the opinion that our country deserves the best leadership that can heal and mend fences across various ethnic nationalities and structures.

“For CENYLON, the prospect of healthy and fair dealing in this regard should form an integral part of the credentials of who will emerge the next president of Nigeria,” it said.

While promising do its best to ensure the votes of Nigerians count in the election, CENYLON said it would announce its resolution on the presidential candidate it would adopt at its next meeting
