Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has implored the 2018 Batch C Stream 1 Corps Members posted to the state to contribute their quota towards the success of the 2019 General Elections.

Emmanuel said this during the official opening/swearing in ceremony for the 1,964 corps members at the orientation camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Monday Uko, said that the corps members were mobilised at a critical period in the nation history, stressing that nation building required the contribution of all Nigerians.

“Your mobilisation falls within a critical period in our quest to consolidate on our democratic experience. You will be required to participate in the 2019 general elections.

“I implore you to contribute your quota towards ensuring that the elections are not only credible but also free and fair,” Emmanuel said.

Emmanuel reiterated the commitment of the state government to providing adequate facilities in the orientation camp for the comfort of corps members.

He urged the corps members to participate actively in the three-week orientation exercise while in camp.

Earlier in his speech, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Julius Amusan, said that the 2018 Batch C Stream 1 corps members comprised 952 male and 1,012 females.

Amusan charged corps members to apply themselves to all camp activities and not to be selective, but take all the training very serious.

“In the next three weeks, corps members will be engaged in various activities intended to bring out the best in them.

“These include but not limited to lectures, drill, skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development,” Amusan said.

He commended Emmanuel for his contribution and support to corps members and the development of facilities in the camp. (NAN)
