A community leader in Warri North Local GOvernment on Monday appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to create more wards in his community for the 2019 general election.
Chief Victor Nanna of Koko Kingdom made the appeal when the INEC officials paid him a courtesy visit.
He said that he was not usually happy with the low performance by his people during past elections.
He said that it was usually caused by insufficient wards for them to vote for candidates of their choices.
He, therefore, appealed to INEC to create more wards to ensure conflict free process during the 2019 general elections.
Nanna said that a situation where all the electorate in the community would cluster in one ward to register was not good.
He said that it would benefit the community if everybody could be captured and be registered for the election where they lived.
Nanna assured the INEC officials that the 2019 general election was going to be peaceful in the community and in the state.
Earlier, the Administrative Secretary of INEC in the state , Mrs Rose Orianran-Anthony thanked the community head for allocating land to the commission to build its prototype office.
She said that the commission needed the land because its present office in the community was a temporary one and not conducive for INEC workers.
She said that the commission needed an office where the security of the staff during elections would be guaranteed.
She said that this was paramount to the commission.
She also used the occasion to appeal to the community head to help sensitise the electorate to come and collect their permanent voter cards (PVC)s).
She said that 4, 771 PVCs were ready for collection from those that registered last year..
