The National Orientation Agency(NOA), says it plans to partner with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to sensitise politicians in Bauchi state on issue base campaigns ahead of the 2019 poll.

The State NOA Coordinator, Alhaji Nuru Kobi, made this known during a political dialogue held in Bauchi on Wednesday.

Kobi said there was the need for politicians to redirect their campaign approach from castigating one another to pronouncing their intentions on developmental issues.

He said the agency would also meet with officials of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state on the need to regulate airing of political programmes.

“We will also meet with NUJ and NBC on airing of political programmes to ensure that politicians air their manifestoes based on issues that affect the electorate.

“We consulted people in Bauchi and they said they are fed up with politics of calumny.

“The agency has held talks with various CSOs to sensitise politicians on the need to base their campaigns on issues like water, education, health among others,” he said.

Mr Ezekiel Sukumun, on behalf of the Network of Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN) said that the aim of the dialogue was to allow political parties discuss their manifestoes in the state on issues.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was organised by NEWSAN with support from Water Aid in Nigeria. (NAN)
