ADENIYI Adelaku, Ondo State Volleyball Coach, says his team plans to retain its title as the defending champions in the male category at the forthcoming 2020 National Sports Festival, slated for Benin, Edo.

Adekalu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that the team has been training for three weeks in preparation for the festival.

He said the team was not ready to leave the title to any other team, adding that the team was focused on retaining the title.

According to the coach, the team is currently training with 12 players in Akure.

“The players were training individually during the COVID-19 lockdown, I gave them a training schedule to follow based on their abilities.

“Everyone one of them was training and working individually on his weak areas; I was also checking and monitoring how they were training.

” I usually use our past experiences and mistakes to correct and prepare them ahead of any competition.

“We all know that other teams will also want to take over our current position, but we will fight well to maintain our title and show our supremacy in the game,” he said.

NAN reports that Ondo state defeated Plateau 3-1 to emerge champions at the 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja.

The State placed 10th on the medal table at the Abuja National Sports Festival.
