2023 Budget: MDAs committed to community-oriented projects in Sokoto- Official

MINISTRIES Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Sokoto State on Tuesday recommitted themselves to executing community oriented projects as contained in the 2023 budget proposal of the state.

Mr Muktar Aliyu, the Special Adviser to Gov. Aminu Tambuwal on Community Development made the assertion after defending the 2023 budget proposal of the Ministry for Local Government and Community Development before a State House of Assembly committee.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Tambuwal on had Dec. 5 presented the proposed 2023 Appropriation Bill to the assembly amounting to N198.5 billion.

The governor said the 2023 budget was in consonance with the existing budgetary standing and prevailing fiscal realities as contained in the State Medium Term Expenditure (MTEF) and glaring evidence.

According to him, the 2023 Budget reflects a continuation of priority focus on critical aspects of development, with allocation to sub-sectors.

He said Capital Expenditure is at 58.9 per cent while Recurrent Spending is 41.1 per cent of the total budget.

“It will accord priority to the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects and the legacy projects started by this Administration,” the governor added.

Aliyu said the MDAs in the state remained committed to ensuring the success of the budget pronouncement.

“We have specifically proposed what the people need and I want to assure you that such projects will be the priority of all MDAs in Sokoto State.

“This gesture is in order for the government to complement the efforts of the people and encourage community participation in governance,” he said.

In his remarks, Alhaji Habibu Modachi (PDP- Isa), the Chairman of the Committee on Local Governments and Community Development assured of the members’ commitment to human development projects.

Modachi said that the assembly would give more emphasis on projects that had direct benefits to the public as proposed by the state government.

In a related development, the Ministry of Information led by its Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu, had appeared before the House Committee on Information to defend the 2023 budget proposal of the parastatals under it.

Adamu said the committee was fully aware of the ministry’s challenges and assured to work with the officials toward addressing them. problems.

Alhaji Faruk Balle (PDP-Gudu), the committee’s Chairman said it would see to the possibility of enacting laws that would enhance the services of the parastatals under the ministry.

Also appeared before the House Committee on Public Service Matters to depend on their budget proposals were: The officials from the Office of the Head of Service as well as Establishment and Pension Matters.

Others weer: Local Government Pension Board, Primary Staff Pension Board and Judiciary Service Commission. (NAN)
