THE Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC) in Abia, Chief Nwanne Nwabuisi, says the use of electronic recruitment for ad hoc staff members is meant to achieve fairness and equity and eliminate fraud.

Nwabuisi said this on Monday, when he briefed newsmen in Umuahia on the commencement of the online recruitment of ad hoc staff for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

He said that necessary mechanism had been put in place for a transparent online recruitment for the census.

According to him, the use of electronic recruitment method is to ensure that every community in the state is fully represented in the exercise.

Nwabuisi said that the method was in line with the commission’s resolve to utilise digital methodology for the upcoming census.

He further said that the commission also resolved “to deploy the latest relevant technology for the achievement of a credible and corruption-free census”.

He said that the commission had created State and Local Government Recruitment Review Teams to assist individuals, especially in the hinterlands, to apply for positions of their interest.

The NPC commissioner also said that the recruitment commenced in the last week of October and would end on Dec. 28.

He listed the positions to include facilitators, training center administrators, monitoring and evaluation officers, data quality managers, data quality assistants, supervisors and enumerators.

He said that applicants were expected to be computer literate and would be employed based on their educational qualifications.

Nwabuisi described the 2023 Census as key to the nation’s socio-economic development.

“This is why the commission is desirous to recruit competent persons to ensure a successful exercise,” he said.

He called on Abia residents to participate actively in the exercise to further promote the Federal Government’s transformation agenda.

In a remark, the Abia NPC Coordinator, Mrs Julie Ezebuiro, said that the resolve to use electronic platform to conduct the recruitment was to eliminate fraud.

Ezebuiro called on stakeholders to assist the commission to sensitise the public on the importance of the recruitment and its relevance in achieving a successful census. (NAN)
