THE Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State, Mr Yekini Ayoku, on Monday advised politicians against running foul of the  electoral law.

Ayoku gave the advice when he undertook an operational tour of the two offices and other facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kaduna metropolis to assess and upscale security preparedness for the 2023 polls.

He said that the police would not compromise the law in its statutory duties of protecting lives and property of citizens.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the CP was received by the Commission’s Administrative Secretary, Alhaji Auwal Mashi.

Ayoku and the Secretary  jointly inspected the facilities and reviewed deployments while proffering professional advice on physical security of assets and materials.

The CP said the tour was in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, on the fortification of all INEC offices across the country.

He said the Divisional Police Officers and their supervisory Area Commanders were earlier directed, in the  weekly conference with officers, to ensure round-the-clock tight security around INEC offices in their various Area of Responsibility (AORs).

He reassured INEC of the command’s support and that of other security agencies in the execution of the commission’s mandate of conducting a free, fair and credible general elections.

“I sternly warn miscreants and mischief makers to steer clear of INEC facilities and I also advise political actors, candidates and their parties to play the game by the rules or have the law to contend with. (NAN)
