2023: Taraba traditional ruler urges politicians to eschew bitterness
Politics
THE Galadima of Muri, Alhaji Tukur Aba-Tukur has urged politicians in Taraba to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship devoid of rancour and bitterness ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
He also tasked political office seekers to conduct themselves like people who want to lead others.
Tukur made the call at a reception held in honor of the Care Taker Committee Chairman, Jalingo Local Government Council, Dr Aminu Hassan, organised by the Muri Royal Family on Wednesday night.
He said it made no sense that those clamoring to lead others failed to show capacity to tolerate and accommodate opposing views.
According to him, I must say that our son has proven to be an exemplary leader. His track record at the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency speaks volumes besides a well accomplished medical career.
“Today, we have chosen to come together to celebrate him on his appointment as the CTC Chairman of Jalingo LGA.
“Indeed, we believe that this is only a stepping stone and not his destination.
“As we are all well aware, electioneering period is here again. This is an opportunity for us to elect new leaders. It is important that we are properly guided in making our choices.
“Those who instigate crisis can never be good leaders and we must look out for those who work for peace.
“We must look out for those who have proven records of competence, integrity, honor, humility, selflessness and the interest of the people at heart,” he said.
He admonished the youth in the country to shun violence and resist being used as thugs by desperate politicians who only remember them when they need them to do their “dirty jobs”.
“Instead, elect leaders who will provide an enabling environment for you to thrive using your youthful exuberance, strength, talent and skills,” he said.
Responding, Hassan, a prominent member of the Muri Royal Family, commended Gov. Darius Ishaku for the opportunity to serve.
He also appreciated the royal family for the honor done to him.
He promised to put in more efforts to ensure that he delivers on his mandate and leaves Jalingo LGA a lot better than he met it.
“I feel utterly humbled by this kind gesture and the warm show of love. I assure you that I am already consulting with various sections of our society in a bid to bringing everyone on board and work for the common good of the local government.
“I am aware of the security challenges we have but I am confident that our engagement with the youth and other stakeholders will put all of these to rest.
“We would intensify engagement, especially in the days leading to next year’s election so that we would have a rancour free election.
“We have identified key areas for intervention across the local government area, and we are already putting measure in place to see that we make the best of the opportunities at our disposal to tackle these issues, the paucity of funds notwithstanding,” he said.(NAN)
