2024 budget: Gombe residents laud Tinubu’s internal security measures
Politics
SOME residents of Gombe have commended President Bola Tinubu’s plans to overhaul the nation’s internal security architecture.
They stated this on Wednesday in Gombe while reacting to the 2024 budget proposal presented to the joint session of the National Assembly.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Tinubu on Wednesday presented N27.5 trillion 2024 appropriation bill to the National Assembly.
Presenting the budget tagged: “Budget of Renewed Hope’’, Tinubu said the main focus was on national defence, internal security, local job creation and macro-economic stability
Mr Williams Attah, a resident of Gombe metropolis, described the measure as timely, adding that it’s best for the country considering the impact of security on other sectors.
He said that improvement in security would guarantee confidence for investors to invest towards addressing unemployment and boost Nigeria’s economy.
“This will be the best thing that has ever happened to Nigeria in recent times if it will be meticulously implemented
“It gladdens my heart to hear such because we are long overdue for this in view of the security issues we are grappling with.
“This approach will solve many of the problems and create investment inflow to revive our economy, boost productivity and create jobs.
“Our security has been like this for too long, this is timely, commendable and should be carefully implemented for gains for other sectors,” he said.
He advised that the overhauling of the internal security architecture should be done in line with best global practices so that Nigeria’s security would be in better position to fight emerging crimes and make the country safe.
Corroborating Attah, the Chairman, Association of Non-governmental Organisations (ANGO) in the State, Ibrahim Yusuf said the plan should be welcomed by Nigerians.
Yusuf advocated for proactive measures to facilitate proper implementation of the programme to address security challenges in the country.
“If the plan is well implemented, Nigeria will witness a boost in investment into the country because no one would bring his money where there is chaos.”
The human rights activist advised the Federal Government to incorporate community-based approach into the new security architecture to promote engagement at the grassroots.
This, he said would strengthen intelligence gathering which is key to crime prevention.
For Malam Ibrahim Kwadom, a large-scale rice farmer in Deba community Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state, said that effective restructuring of the security architecture would enhance food security in the country.
He said many farmers in the Northeast and other parts of the country were being impacted by the insecurity.
“That’s why I commend Mr President for this good initiative.
“Farmers are praying for Mr President because we know he has good plans and this overhauling of internal security architecture is one of his good plans,” he said.
Other respondents expressed similar views, and urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s administration to actualise its “Renewed Hope Agenda”. (NAN)
