THE Nigerian Legion, Lagos State Chapter on Wednesday expressed gratitude to the state government for its support to the association’s development over the years.
Mr Akeem Wolimoh, the Chairman of the chapter, made this known during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD), which held in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island.
The Nigerian Legion is a non-profit organisation that supports and advocates for the welfare of Nigerian veterans and their families.
It was established in 1964, to promote camaraderie among veterans and to ensure that veterans are recognised and supported.
Its members include people who served in the Nigerian Armed Forces
Wolimoh said that the essence of the remembrance day ceremony was to mark the contributions of fallen heroes and keep their memories alive.
“The day is also a way of expressing the gratitude of living ex-service men or military veterans to the government and those that are supporting them.
“We want to use this event as an opportunity to request for more support from government and our other partners in order to fulfill our obligations,” he said.
The chairman noted that there was a need to overhaul the process of reintegrating military veterans into society.
He said that he was sure that the present state government was doing something about the reintegration of military veterans, and that the legion would soon see a significant change in its operations.
In his remarks, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, represented by his Deputy, Mr Obafemi Hamzat, said that the state government would continue to collaborate with the legion and listen to them in order to sustain their families. (NAN)
