A 22-year-old fashion designer, Jamilu lawal, was on Thursday, ordered to be remanded at Makurdi Correctional Centre, for allegedly belonging to an unlawful society and attempted Culpable Homicide.

Mrs. Cynthia Ikpe, of Makurdi Magistrates’ Court, ordered that Lawal, who resides at Wadata, Makurdi, be remanded at the centre pending further investigations.

Ikpe, who did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction, adjourned the case to Sept. 25, for further mention.

Earlier, the Police prosecutor, Insp. Inedu Friday, said the case was reported by one Yusuf Isah, of No 9, Benue Crescent, Wadata Makurdi, at the A’ Divisional Police Station on Aug. 21.

Isah stated that some young men, armed with locally made guns and pistols with the emblem of black skull confraternity, had stormed Wadata.

The complainant alleged that they began to shoot sporadically, and in the process hit one Rabiu Isah and his friend, Umar Musa, while some other persons sustained various degrees of injuries while scampering for safety.

Friday said during Police investigation, the defendant was arrested, while his accomplices were still at large.

He said investigation into the matter was still ongoing, and therefore, requested an adjournment.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene sections 97 and 230 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State 2004, Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearm (Special Provision) Act 2004 and 1(2) of the Abduction, Hostage taking, kidnapping, Secret cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law 2017.
