25 Nigerians, 4 organisations bag international peace award

The International Association of World Peace Advocates, a UN affiliate, has conferred the award of Eminent Peace Ambassador on four organisations and 25 prominent Nigerians for their contributions to peace development in the nation.
The award was presented on Tuesday in Abuja to the recipients as champions of human dignity and global community of peace makers.
Decorating the awardees, a spokesman for the Association, Dr Emmanuel Okeke, said the decision to honour the recipients was informed by their track records of competence and general contribution to peace development in the nation.
Okeke emphasised that the awardees had become global citizens stressing that their inputs and suggestions would be sought from time to time for the promotion of the works of the UN in Nigeria and Africa.
In his speech, the World Peace President, Amb. Per Stafsen, revealed that with the award recipients had been identified as champions of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.
According to Stafsen that the association will network with the awardees for good orientation, effective participation and promotion of the SDGs on issues of humans rights, peace, justice and equity.
Stafsen also explained that the International Association of World Peace advocates is a global body saddled with the responsibility of promoting peace among the 193 member-countries of the UN.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Dr Salisu Ingawa, an agriculture research expert from Katsina, described the award as an act of God.
He commended the association for identifying Nigeria as one of the most peaceful nations in the world.
He assured the UN that the recipients would collaborate with the association and their international counterparts to advocate for global peace.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the organisations with the SDG cooperate awards included: The Nigeria Television Association, the Ooni of Ife, Television Continental Ltd. (TVC), and Access Bank.
Also the 25 prominent Nigerians honoured were chosen from different states of the country. (NAN)
