2FACE, Nigeria’s music superstar, and Faheem Najm, a multi-platinum and Grammy Award-winning American rapper, better known as T-Pain, are to perform at the African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA, holding at the Eisemann Centre, Richardson, Texas, United States, on July 29. Big-A Entertainment, organisers of the AFRIMMA confirmed the inclusion of the two artistes recently.
The Nigerian artiste is expected to be the cynosure of attraction at the event, which is being sponsored by Arik Air. Speaking on the event, Anderson Obiagwu, founder of Big-A Entertainment, said his company was determined to sustain the drive towards a world class African show, through its ‘crossing boundaries’ with music project. “This event will not only celebrate the music of Africa, but celebrate the unique sounds, culture and artiste that tell the stories of our continent as a whole,” Obiagwu said.
Concert for Oputa
CHARLES Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, son of the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, intends to hold a music concert for his father. According to Charly Boy, prominent musicians such as Dbanj and Terry G would be performing at a concert to mark the death of his father.
Speaking at his Abuja residence, Charly Boy said his father lived a fulfilled life “so there is a great need to celebrate him.’’ He, therefore, urged Nigerians not to sympathise with him but join in celebrating him. “My father was a good and great man, though we did not start off well because in the beginning he always felt I was too rascal. I did not obey orders and I got tired of his rules, regulations and restrictions so it was important that I go my own way. I thank God I did that because at long last since the past 25 years; I won the kind of respect I deserved from the man who thought that the direction I took was a wrong move. For the past 25 years, we bonded and I am proud to have had a father like him,” he said.
According to him, the late jurist brought him up on a strong `overdose’ of morals, values, principles and how to be contented and be at peace with oneself. “I will continue to apply these virtues to my life,’’ he said.
Oputa, a former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the National Hospital, Abuja at the age of 96 after recovering from a brief illness.
Michael Jackson’s New Song Debuts
THE first single from Michael Jackson’s posthumous album will premiere at the iHeartRadio Awards on Thursday, ahead of the record’s release later this month.
“Love Never Felt So Good,’’ originally written and recorded by Jackson in 1983, is the debut single for “Xscape’’, released on May 13, by Epic Records in partnership with Jackson’s estate.michael-jackson-new
The song will be available for purchase starting at midnight Friday, May 9.
The album will feature eight previously unreleased songs from Jackson that were recorded between 1983 and 1999.
Justin Timberlake, a pop singer, revealed that he featured on “Love Never Felt So Good’’ in an Instagram post recently. It was not known if he would perform the song at the awards show.
Jackson, known as the “King of Pop’’ and one of the most influential artists in the music industry, having sold one billion records worldwide, died from an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol in June 2009 at age 50 in Los Angeles.
The powerful drug was given to him by his personal physician while he was rehearsing for a series of 50 comeback concerts in London.
Nigerian Nollywood Movies for Oscar Awards
AHEAD of the 2015 Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, AMPAS, has approved a 12-man committee of Nollywood stakeholders known as the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee, NOSC, to pave the way for Nigerian entries to be considered for the world’s most prestigious prizes for films.
Each year, countries with an approved selection committee may submit one film for consideration for the Foreign Language Film Award, only five films are chosen from all international submissions for Academy members to cast their votes and choose a winning foreign language film. The NOSC comprises 12 outstanding professionals who have over time proved their mettle as some of the finest in the movie industry and will select one Nollywood movie each year to be submitted for the Oscars. They include Chineze Anyaene, Ngozi Okafor, Olumide Amure, Ramsey Nouah, Kene Mkparu, Emeka Mba, Chioma Ude, Akin Salami, Mildred Okwo, Biola Alabi, Charles Novia and Shaibu Husseini.
According to the Academy rules, the members will consider submissions on seven criteria, which are: story, direction, acting, cinematography, sound, music and universal theme. Every Nollywood movie selected each year will compete with movies from eighty-five other countries for the coveted Best Foreign Language Film Award. The Academy members will then pick a shortlist of five foreign language pictures ahead of the awards ceremony.
“This is a great opportunity for Nigeria to have a voice in the international film arena,” Anyaene, filmmaker and committee chairperson, said.
