3 docked for alleged theft of 6 tricycles

 THREE men – Ismaila Ibrahim, 22; Bolaji Yusuf, 29; and Samuel Akinwande, 20 – on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos charged with stealing six tricycles valued at N5,185, 000.

The defendants, who reside at Agbado, Abule-Egba and Meiran area of Lagos State, respectively, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendants and other persons, still at large, committed the offences between April and June at Meiran, Ayobo, Ipaja and Command area of Lagos State.

Adejumola said the defendants stole the tricycles belonging to Mr Sunday Akande, Azeez Shodunke, Saheed Salami, David Samuel, Toheeb Adegbindin and Israel Fadojutimi.

“The defendants stole Akande’s tricycle valued at N750,000, Shodunke N900,000; Salami N725,000; Samuel N830,000: Adegbindin N830, 000; and Fadojutimi N1,150,000 totalling N5,185,000.

“They stole the tricycles away from where the complainants parked them.

“The defendants were eventually arrested,” he said.

The alleged offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years’ jail term for stealing, while 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.

Magistrate Mrs O.A Odubajo, released the defendants on bail of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG).

The magistrate fixed further hearing for July 21. (NAN)
