3 in court over alleged cult membership, unlawful possession of firearms

THREE men – Chijoke Nkama, 22; Efone Enahoro, 28, and Sunday Sutu, 24 – on Friday appeared in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged cult membership and unlawful possession of unlicensed pistols.

The defendants are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, membership of a secret cult and causing harm.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perez, the defendants committed the offences with some others still at large on June 8, at 10:00p.m. On Ganiyu Jimoh Street, Opposite Ojo Barracks, Lagos.

Perezi said that some policemen caught the defendants with four unlicensed pistols, adding that  Nkama injured  one Mr Audu Jubril.

Perezi also said that the defendants belonged to a secret cult called Aiye confraternity.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 42(a), 51, 230(2) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, remanded them, and adjourned the case until Aug. 28 for mention.
