3 Nigerian undergraduates win Veritas Kapital insurers competition for universities

THREE Nigerian undergraduates have won N450,000 cash prizes in  the maiden quiz competition organised by Veritas Kapital Assurance Company,  for final year students of various universities across the country.

The Executive Director, Veritas Kapital, Mr Olasunkanmi Adekeye said at the award presentation on Tuesday in Lagos that the competition was organised as part of the insurance company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.

Adekeye said the competition was geared toward giving back to the society, creating more awareness about insurance and improving  the knowledge and interest of the participants on insurance.

He explained that investment in knowledge paid good dividend and one of the best ways to give back to the society was through the students.

“As requested from various universities by Veritas Kapital, names of 49 best undergraduates of Insurance And Actuarial Science department  were sent and shorlisted for the competition.

“Following rounds of the competition, the best three winners were : Mr Chiemerie Oguejiofor of the University of Lagos who emerged first  Mr Taofeek Alabi of the University of Ado-Ekiti who came second while Miss Tonica Ehidiamen-Ton of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria  emerged third.

“The first position won a cash prize of N200,000, second position N150,000 while the third position won N100,000, making a total of N450,000.

“There were other running and logistics costs  incurred during the competition, making the overall cost to run into millions of naira.

“Our third position winner lives in Kaduna and could not come down due to some logistics issues, so she is receiving her award  in our Kaduna office,” he said.

Adekeye charged the students to use the money wisely by investing in themselves to equip them for future challenges and opportunities.

The executive director also urged the winners to pursue a career in the insurance industry and contribute their quota to the industry through the knowledge they had acquired in school.

He also urged Nigerians to embrace insurance , which restored them incase of losses, while promising that Veritas Kapital as a Non-Life insurance company would continue to provide pocket friendly insurance products and pay policyholders claims promptly.

Adekeye pledged that the underwriting firm would sustain the competiton, amongst its other educational, humanitarian, support and community service CSR projects.

Reacting, the overall winner, Oguejiofor, who is presently on 4.82 CGPA appreciated Veritas Kapital for organising the competition which gave the participants a platform to test their intellectual capabilities and also connect with the industry.

He said the cash would help him sort out some expenses for his final year project, among others.

Oguejiofor stated that he intended to come back to the industry after his national  service to th country,    to contribute his insurance and tech savvy knowledge to the industry.

In his speech, Alabi who is on 3.8CGPA, thanked the insurance firm for its goodwill, promising that he would return to the industry after his service to contribute his qouta.

The News Agency of Nigeria  (NAN) reports that Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc is a Nigerian insurance company which offers non-life Insurance products and services to individuals and institutions across Nigeria.

Its products include Marine insurance, Aviation , Engineering, Oil & Gas , Auto and Home Insurance.(NAN)
