3 policemen murdered as unknown gunmen attack political meeting

NO fewer than three policemen have been shot dead by unknown gunmen at a political meeting in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government (LGA), Anambra State.

The policemen were attached to an Anambra governorship aspirant, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, who was a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The Anambra gubernatorial polls are scheduled for Nov. 6.

The gunmen had disrupted an interactive session between Isuofia youths and Prof. Soludo.

The National Secretary of All Soludo Support Groups and Convener of Youths Earnestly Seek Soludo, YEES, Nelson Obinna Omenugha, who confirmed in attack in a telephone interview, said yes, there was serious stampede at Afuzo area of Isuofia, Aguata LGA, the venue of the meeting.

He said that three of Soludo’s security details were killed, while the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, an engineer, was also taken away by the gunmen.

Omenugha condoled with the families of the dead, praying to God to grant their soul eternal rest.

Soludo, who hails from Isuofia and one of the leading aspirants in the Nov. 6, election, was said to be safe, even though his current whereabouts remain unknown.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenganya Tochukwu, has confirmed the incident.
