THE Alumni Association of the University of Ilorin on Tuesday celebrated 16 best graduating students of the university’s Class 2024 at its maiden awards presentation and honours luncheon.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 23 distinguished alumni of the university were also honoured.

These include Gboyega Akosile, the Special Assistant on Media to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state, and the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole.

Speaking on the sidelines of the awards’ presentation, the association’s National President, Prof. Abdulrazaq Kilani, said the event was organised to celebrate the best graduating students for distinguishing themselves.

He explained that it was also to remind the identified alumni of the need to give back to their alma mater.

“We are honouring some of our valued alumni today because of their contributions to the society, with a view to reminding them that Unilorin is proud of their accomplishments.

“Unilorin is monitoring your progress and the giant strides you are making, so as to remind you that it is time to give back to our alma mater as valued alumni,” Kilani said.

He stated further that plans were on by the association to embark on three projects, including the re-modelling of alumni secretariat, construction of a male hostel.

“The male hostel will complement the existing one and the alumni guest house will also provide accommodation for visitors to the school,” the alumni association President said.

He urged the graduating students to fully utilise the digital skills they acquired while in school to make a difference in their various fields of endeavours.

“This is as regarding whereever they may find themselves in the future,” Kilani said.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, on his part, charged the honouree alumni and the new graduates to harness the best opportunities available in their various disciplines to make their alma mater great.(NAN)
