4 docked over alleged cultism, unlawful possession of firearms

FOUR suspected cultists on Wednesday appeared before an Ebute Meta, Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on a four-count charge bordering on cultism and unlawful possession of firearms.

The police arraigned Ajibade Taiwo, Yakubu Ezra, Justice Upah and Mohammed Abdullahi before Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, the defendants are members of the Aiye confraternity and were found in possession of an axe, black berets with the insignia of Black Axe, two locally-made pistols and six live cartridges.

He told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Nov. 13 at noon at Ogudu, Lagos State.

The alleged offences contravenes Section 411, 168(d) and 51 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 27(b)(11) of the Firearms Act of 2004.

The chief magistrate granted the defendants bail in the sum of ₦200,000 each with two sureties.

She adjourned the case until Dec. 9.
