FOUR Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) employees who allegedly stole six concrete electric poles valued at N300, 000 were on Wednesday appeared in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.
The defendants:Timothy Kolawole, 37, Pius Atoyebi, 36; Leonard Okolie, 40; and Tertsea Haasao, facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft, pleaded innocence of the offences.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 23 at 9. 00p.m. at EKEDC premises, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said that the defendants conspired to steal six concrete electric poles worth N50, 000 each all valued at N300, 000.
“The defendants have been sneaking out the poles from the premises one at a time for sale.
“They were sneaking out the seventh one when they were sighted by a security guard who accosted them and later reported,” he said.
The offences contravene Sections 287 (7), 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 287 (7) carries seven years imprisonment while Section 411 attracts two years imprisonment for anyone found guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr Kazeem Omolaja, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that one of the sureties must be relatives of the defendants and the other, a civil servant.
Further hearing on the case has been fixed for April 19. (NAN)
