FOUR men, Bashir Abdullahi, Jamilu Zakari, Junaidu Abdullahi and Hassan Usman, were, on Tuesday, arraigned before an Upper Area Court, Kubwa, FCT, for alleged criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
The police arraigned the defendants, of Shenegu village, Abuja, on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and receiving stolen property.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, told the court that a direct criminal complaint on the matter was referred from the court to the Area Command Headquarters, Kubwa, on May 9.
Okpa said that Usman and one other, now at large, bought eight motorcycles on hired purchase between August and December 2022 from one Hassan Ibrahim and Nura Zuba.
He said the other defendants conspired with the suspect, now at large, to conceal and dispose the said motorcycles.
The prosecution counsel said Usman and the suspect, now at large, however, fraudulently sold the motorcycles while the hire purchase agreement had not expired and converted the money to their personal use.
The offences, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 317 and 312 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Yahaya Sheshi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2.5 million each, with one surety each who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Sheshi said the sureties must produce their national identity card or driver’s licence.
He adjourned the case till Aug. 8 for hearing. (NAN)
