4 men docked over alleged criminal intimidation

FOUR men- Prosper Johnson, Bright Iruka, Daniel Abah, and Paul Christopher, on Thursday appeared before a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, charged with criminal intimidation.
The four men, who live at Byazhin Across, Kubwa, Abuja, are facing charge bordering on joint act, criminal intimidation, assault, causing public nuisance, and theft.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges .
The prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that one Joyce Atsua of Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on March 26.
He said that the complainant on March 24, went to a Betnaija office in Kubwa, Abuja, to charge her cell phone.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendants stole the cell phone where it was plugged.
According to the prosecutor, when the complainant discovered that her cell phone was missing, she along with her brother, David Titus, confronted the defendants.
”The four, armed with axe, cutlasses and firewood, attacked the complainant and her brother in their house,’’ Olanipekun said.
He said that the defendants also threatened to kill the complainant and her brother if they demanded for the said phone again.
The offences contravened Sections 79, 397, 265, 183, 114 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Malam Mohammed Marafa, however, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
He said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until April 13 for hearing.
