44-year-old agent in court over alleged N600,000 fraud

A 44-year-old agent, Godson  Orugbala, on Tuesday appeared in a Grade I Area Court in Lugbe, FCT for allegedly defrauding a housewife of N600,000.

The police charged Godson, who resides Zone 5 Lugbe, with two counts of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecution Counsel, Jibrin Seidu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2019 at the same address.

He alleged that the nominal complainant, Mrs Olajumoke  Azeez of the same address, sold her house to a client for N600,000 and the payment through the defendant’s account.

He said that the defendant only remitted N200,000 to the complainant and a converted the sum of N400,000 to his personal use.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty. The defence counsel, Mr F.O. Alumona,  urged the court to grant his client bail to enable him to pay the balance of N400,000 on or before Aug. 31.

The Presiding Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N400,000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must be residing within the Federal Capital Territory and adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for the report of payment. (NAN)
