No fewer than 7,000 ex-corps members have settled and established businesses in various parts of Katsina State following the success recorded by the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme (SAED).

The NYSC State Coordinator, Hajiya Ramatu Sanda, disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Batch C Stream 2 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state.

Sanda said that the youths had established businesses such as trading, barbing saloon, hair dressing, catering services and clinics, among others, in various parts of the state.

She said the essence of the skills acquisition programme was to prepare the youths to be self reliant and become employers of labour, particularly after the service year.

She said the efforts would go a long way in strengthening national unity and integration.

The coordinator urged serving corps members to always imbibe the virtues of honesty, humility, respect and have regard for one another.

She also  urged ex-corps members to continue to live in peace with one another, while conducting their legal businesses.

She appealed to employers of  corps members to accept the NYSC members posted to them so as to benefit from their knowledge and skills.

Sanda commended the Katsina State Government for the moral and financial support it had been giving to the scheme.

The State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, urged corps members to interact with their host communities to learn their culture.

Masari, represented by his Special Adviser on Youths Development, Ibrahim Khalil,  also urged the youths to employ ways of improving the lives of the common man through community development projects.

He said that his administration would continue to accord priority to youth empowerment.(NAN)
