The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Primary Health Care Development Board says no fewer than 820,000 children will benefit from various healthcare services to mark the 2018 Maternal and Child Health Week.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, disclosed this at the official flag off of the week in Abuja on Thursday.
Mohammed explained that the programme would provide Vitamin A, immunisation against child all killer diseases and nutrition services, among others.
He said that 248 health workers had been trained to carry out the exercise in 278 centres across the six area councils of the FCT.
According to him, some volunteers will participate to provide commodities within the seven days programme.
The executive secretary said that the programme would also focus on women especially on health education, exclusive breast feeding and HIV screening, among others.
The Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Mrs Amanda Pam, said that the week would deliver a package of high impact key maternal, newborn and child survival interventions that had been proven to reduce maternal and child mortality.
Represented by Dr Mathew Ashikeni, a Director from the secretariat, Pam said that the current FCT administration had priortised the provision of quality healthcare services to women and children in the territory.
She urged traditional rulers and residents of FCT to mobilise their women, caregivers and children to healthcare facilities to access the services. (NAN)
