Madubike Reuben Offia, a nonagenarian, says the pension office is not mindful of his age and services to his state by holding on to his pension
The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD, has tied the payment of pension to Madubike Reuben Offia, a nonagenarian in Abia state, to availability of funds.
Offia stated this while appealing to the Federal Government for the payment of his arrears of pension at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, secretariat in Umuahia, the state capital.
Presenting a letter written to him to that effect by the PTAD, he lamented that, “For the past eight year plus, I have not been paid my monthly pension, the last payment was made in August, 2010.”
The nonagenarian further explained his predicament “to the best of my knowledge, I do not know why my pension was stopped. Things are very difficult for me now.”
Offia, from Nkpa in Bende Local Government Area, who said he retired from active service on December 23, 1993 added that the last school he taught was Girls Junior Secondary School, Umuahia.
“Dear Mr. Madubike, thank you for contacting PTAD. We wish to inform you that payment of pension arrears by the Directorate is subject to availability of funds by the Federal Government,” said the letter
According to the letter signed by one Bibilomo Fashola, “We ask that you please be patient. As soon as funds are made available we will pay pension arrears. Thank you and best regards”.
