PIONEER chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has disclosed that during his tenure as EFCC chairman, ninety-nine per cent of those arrested over allegations of corruption were members of the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaking on Friday in Lagos at a reception organised for former president Olusegun Obasanjo, by his close associates to celebrate his 80th birthday, he stated that basanjo refused to interfere with the activities of the anti-graft agency.

The former presidential candidate praised Obasanjo for his leadership achievements in the country, adding that the former president contributed immensely to his personal career.

“Things really happened during that period and there were a couple of difficult moments because 99 per cent of the people we arrested were Peoples Democratic Party members. He (Obasanjo) exercised self-restraint; he refused to interfere with the day-to-day running of the EFCC. Obasanjo is a living proof that hard work does not kill. I wish he would never retire. You can’t afford to retire,” Ribadu said.
