9th Matriculation: FUBK matriculates 2, 217 students

THE Federal University, Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), on Wednesday, matriculated 2,095 undergraduate and 122 postgraduate candidates in its 9th matriculation ceremony held in the university.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university, established in 2013, started academic activities in 2014 with 24 degree programmes, but now has 37 undergraduate and 20 post graduate programmes.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Zayyan Muhammad-Umar, said that the university was poised to judiciously utilise and consolidate its current gains as to open new vistas of opportunity for its teeming staff and students.
”The university admitted 2,530 applicants into its undergraduate programmes, of which 2,269 accepted the admission, while 2,095 registered and are being matriculated today.
”At the postgraduate level, a total number of 122 applicants were admitted and are being matriculated today,” he said.
Muhammad-Umar enjoined the students to contribute to the creation and sustenance of a university that they could all take pride in.
This, he said, was achievable by avoiding negative behaviors such as involvement in cult activities, examination malpractice, and disrespect to authority.
“You should focus on your studies, show respect to those in authority, and avoid negative behaviors in order to succeed academically.
”Rest assured that we are committed to utilising all available resources, both material and human, to ensure that your stay at FUBK,” he said.
On support for academic endeavours, Muhammad-Umar, said the construction was currently underway for a state-of-the-art Computer-Based Centre at the university.
He added that, “Once the centre is established, it will assist students with registration and the UTME, as well as support those enrolled in specialised programmes preparing for professional examinations.”
While congratulating the students, the VC, implored them to be security conscious and report any suspicious character to the university authority at any time.
Earlier, the Dean, Student Affairs of the university, Prof. Ibrahim Magawata, thanked the university management for their continuous support in matters relating to students’ welfare.
“I also extend my gratitude to all continuing students for their commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and academic excellence on campus,” Magawata said. (NAN)
