THE Akwa Ibom Government has promised to build a house for Mr Joseph Hosea of Ikot Edor village, Onna Local Government Area of the state, whose home was burnt on Sunday.
The state Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephrim Inyang, who made the pledge in Onna on Tuesday, also donated N250,000 and other relief materials to the victim on behalf of government.
Inyang who said the construction of the re-modeled building would start immediately also presented ten tubers of yam, three mattresses, two pillows, three bags of rice and eight wrappers to the victim.
He commiserated with the family and said it was very unfortunate for the family to be greeted with such ugly situation early in 2019.
The commissioner said the present administration in the state was responsive and always committed to ensuring the welfare of the people.
“It is very unfortunate that you are confronted with this ugly situation in the early hours of the year.
“Though it is disheartening, we have a governor who runs an all-inclusive government and makes people’s wellbeing his priority,” he said.
Mr Hosea thanked the state government for its swift intervention even when he had no direct access to them.
He said the PDP government had assisted many people who found themselves in a similar situation, adding that the party was indeed that of the people.
“I will continue to support Gov. Udom Emmanuel. I will mobilise for his re-election.
“It is only a man that feels the pulse of his people that can respond to my situation even when he barely knows me,’’ he said. -NAN
