THE Association of Anambra State Development Unions, AASDU, Lagos branch has passed vote of confidence on Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State to continue for a second term.
The overwhelming endorsement was for instituting policies that had facilitated even spread of development across all facets of humanity, especially the indigent in Anambra.
This was effected during the 2017 Cultural Day Celebration, held at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The celebration attracted 179 registered Communities residing in Lagos State, who were richly adorned in cultural attires and showcased various cultural displays.
Obiano who arrived amidst dignitaries and traditional rulers exchanged pleasantries with the members of the communities on arrival.
Delivering his address, Vincent Osakwe, the president AASDU, Lagos branch, said one of the motives of the association was to unify and propagate the cultural heritage of Anambra indigenes within and outside Lagos State.
According to him, this is a forum where all matters and issues concerning the affairs of Ndi Anambra are discussed and handled.
“It is also an avenue for disseminating information to Ndi Anambra in Lagos State.
“His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano, we wish to use this opportunity to thank you immensely for your giant strides toward protection of lives and property in our state.
“Before you came into office, our people were sleeping with one eye open. Some of our people have been giving away their daughters in marriages in Lagos, for fear of kidnappers, who were looming large in the past.
“But now, our people can come home in peace. Nightlife has returned to Anambra State. You have really done well and we ask you to sustain the good works you have started.’’
Osakwe added: “all these good works have resulted in passing the vote of confidence on your administration and we pledge to support you to achieve your second term dream’’.
Reacting, Obiano said his administration would continue to pay maximum attention to the agricultural sector to sustain the economic tempo achieved so far through export of agricultural produce.
The governor emphasised that the ongoing construction of an Airport City in Anambra would provide business respite to Ndi Anambra based in Lagos.
“This will facilitate their easy transportation of their goods and services to and fro their many business destinations around the world.
“We have started the construction of an international airport in Anambra. It will be the largest cargo airport in Africa with modern global facilities.
“It will also save you the problem of importing goods through Lagos.
“This will reduce unnecessary charges from Customs as well as embarrassments from other security agencies. It will rather add value to our economic productivity,” Obiano pointed out.
The governor observed that his administration had so far employed 330,000 youths in different job creations, urging Anambra youths in Lagos to form different cooperatives to benefit from agricultural revolution in the state.
“I inherited N127.5 billion debts from my predecessor, including 100 road projects. We have paid off about N26 billion and have completed 50 roads.
“I will continue on the premise of continuity to give equal rights and opportunity to all, especially the poor and physically challenged persons in the state,’’ Obiano noted.
There were match past by the various communities as well as cultural displays.
