DR Reuben Abati, a former spokesperson to President Goodluck Jonathan; Mr Daniel Braie, the Managing Director, Linkage Assurance Plc and 100 others were on Thursday inducted as Fellows of the Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIM).
The President of NIM, Dr Christiana Atako, made this known at the Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIMC) 2023 Awards, Fellows and Spouses’ Day Luncheon in Lagos.
The theme of the event is: ”The Leadership Imperative for Managers in a Rapidly Changing World”.
Atako said the institute’s process of upgrading members to Fellow had always been thorough which was why only those who are truly deserving of the award got honoured yearly.
Atako stated that fellowship upgrade was not a destination or an end in itself but a call to higher responsibility and service to the institute, management profession and the nation.
She urged the inductees to place their competencies and specialisations at the disposal of NIM to be of service in their various area of professional calling.
Abati, in his acceptance speech on behalf of other inductees, described the fellowship attainment of the foremost professional institute as a thing of joy and great pride.
Earlier, Mr Anthony Arabome, the Director, Corporate Services, African Finance Corporation, outlined four behaviours successful business leaders need to demonstrate to engender success in Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous world.
Arabome, also a former President, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, listed the four behaviours as; deciding with speed and conviction, engaging for impact, adapting proactively and delivering reliably.
According to him, high-performing chief executives and C-suite leaders do not necessarily stand out for making great decisions all the time; rather, they stand out for being more decisive.
“Once a clear course for the business has been set, chief executive officers and top leaders should secure buy-in among their employees and other stakeholders,” he said.
The expert noted that leadership demanded initiative and calculated risk-taking to trying new ideas, and management should deliver best practices to assure quality and customer satisfaction.
“Strong performers balance keen insight into their stakeholders’ priorities with an unrelenting focus on delivering business results.
“Chief executive officers candidates who scored high on reliability are twice as likely to be selected for the role and 15 times more likely to succeed in it because boards and investors love a steady hand and employees trust predictable leaders.
“Companies and individuals need to develop leadership and management capabilities and become adept at assessing when and how to use them.
“Whether you are in the public or private sector, if you are going to be influential and impactful, you need to have and deploy good effect, management and leadership skills,” he said. (NAN)
