THE Abia State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Amos Adelanwa, has called for robust synergy between the agency and Nigerian army in order to curtail drug abuses and other crimes in Abia State and its environs.

Speaking during his courtesy visit to the Headquarters of 14 Brigade on Friday, October 11, 2024, Adelanwa stated that the Nigerian Army is an organization to reckon with when it comes to the fight against drugs, crimes and other vices.

He assured his host that under his watch, he would collaborate more with the army to ensure drug abuse and crimes are reduced to the barest minimum, if not erased.

Adelanwa noted that partnership in intelligence gathering and cross-fertilization of ideas will boost the fight against drugs and other vices and help uphold peace and national security in Abia state and the nation at large.

In his welcome address, the Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Olusola Diya, disclosed that no security agency can do it alone and that “we need each other to succeed in our operations generally”.

“The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency is the organization saddled with the responsibility to fight drugs and crimes and as such, it should be at the forefront of curbing crimes because most persons committing crimes are in one way or the other under the influence of drugs,” Diya said.

He enjoined all the security agencies to key into different programmes to know each other, relate with one another, eschew rivalry and focus on how to fight crimes in totality and make Abia crime-free.

He stated that all security agencies are trained in different fields and that “we must all respect such professions and support each other jointly in various operations to succeed as a body”.

While reiterating that criminal activities are associated with drugs and that the NDLEA should lead the fight against drugs and crimes while other security agencies will follow.
