BLESSING Johnson, the Coach of Royal Gold Soccer Academy, has advised professional players to always remember their grassroots teams.

Johnson, who is also the Director of the academy, gave the advice on Tuesday in Akure while unveiling some football facilities donated by Victor Boniface, a Nigerian U-20 footballer playing for Bodo/Glimt in Norway.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some the facilities included footballs, jerseys and playing boots.

The coach said that the player started his football career at the academy, adding he was happy that he was giving back to the academy.

He said that footballing would be much more developed in the country if other professional players, both home and abroad, were doing the same thing.

“We are unveiling the equipment donated by one of our own playing abroad so that we can continue to discover more talents to replace the ageing ones.

“I advise other players, like what Boniface is doing, they should emulate it by giving back to where they started,” he said.

Responding, the Team Manager of Royal Gold Soccer Academy, Michael Adegbamigbe, who represented Boniface at the event, urged other footballers who had achieved to give back to their grassroots teams.

He said the team would be participating in a competition organised for grassroots teams in the state.

Boniface promised to continue to give back to teams at the grassroots to help nurture budding talents to stardom. (NAN)
