Access Bank wins Women Market Champion Award

ACCESS Bank Plc has won the Global Banking Alliance for Women’s Market Champion 2015 Award for its innovative approach to banking women across the country. The bank, in a statement on its website said it won the award during the just concluded 14th Annual Summit of the Global Banking Alliance for Women in Sao Paulo, Brazil, alongside banks across the world that had implemented successful women market programmes.

It said the award came on the heels of the one-year anniversary of the bank’s ‘W’ initiative which was launched in Nigeria and subsequently in the bank’s subsidiaries in Ghana, Rwanda and Zambia, adding that ‘W’ was the home for everything Access Bank offered to women.

According to the statement, the Global Banking Alliance for Women is the leading international consortium of financial institutions and other organisations interested in building women’s wealth worldwide. The Global Banking Alliance member institutions work in 135 countries to build innovative, comprehensive programmes that provide women entrepreneurs with vital access to capital, markets, education and training.

Inez Murray, chief executive officer, Global Banking Alliance, who presented the award to OpeWemi-Jones, group head, Inclusive Banking, Access Bank Plc, was said to have commended the women programme at the bank.

The bank also restated that it’s ‘W’ Award, “seeks to recognise and celebrate Nigerian women, home and in the Diaspora who have impacted the Nigerian economy and their immediate environment positively,” describing it as the first of its kind in Nigeria.
