ACTION Aid Nigeria has solicited the support of Kaduna State Government to its new programme that seeks to galvanise citizens to rise up against corruption.

The Country Director, Action Aid Nigeria, Ene Obi told newsmen on Thursday after a courtesy visit on Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Mr Barnabas Bantex in Kaduna.

She said that the project, Strengthening Citizens Resistance Against Prevalence of Corruption (SCRAPCY), is aimed at enlightening youths on the effect of corruption on livelihood.

” We believe that as the enlightenment campaign on corruption progresses, people will appreciate the essence of accountability among public and political officers”.

Obi who was represented by the organisation’s Director of Finance, Oluwole Elegbede, said they are presently working in six states across the county for a duration of four years.

“We are working in Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Enugu and Borno States; the selection was made based on the prevalence of corruption and also the strategic positioning of the States.

“For instance, Kaduna is central and strategic to the North, so we can’t do program in the zone without considering it and likewise other states.

” The project would be extended to other states soon, we are partnering with donor agencies, so we have to pilot some states first but once we are through, other states would be considered based on assessments”, she stressed.

Earlier, the deputy governor assured the organisation of the government readiness to partner and support them in ensuring corruption is reduced to the barest minimum.

He said there are new laws in the local government system aimed at providing safety for every citizen especially when their rights is being infringed upon. (NAN)
