Activist eulogises Bishop Kukah @ 70, hails commitment to national unity, peace
Africa
A Human Rights Activist, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, on Thursday hailed Bishop Matthew Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese for his commitment to national unity and peace.
Ezekwueme, who is the Chairman of Civil Liberties Organisation, Anambra chapter, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.
He described Kukah as a man with conscience, a rare gift from God, and the Martin Luther King (Jr) of our time.
“His quest for just, peaceful, egalitarian and lawful country where justice, rule of law, good governance, security and social justice will be order of the day and way of life of Nigeria and Nigerians is worthy of commendation and appreciation.
“His philosophy and ideology is in tandem with wise postulation of Rev Martin Luther King (Jr) which says “any spiritual emancipation without socioeconomic, political, religious and cultural emancipation is moribund spirituality.
“I extol his rare and immeasurable contributions as a member of Truth, Peace and Reconciliation Commission instituted by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as well as Co-Chairman, National Peace Committee.
“Worthy of mention is that Bishop Kukah always breaks the conspiracy of silence and says the unsaid,” he said.
The activist said that Kukah had remained a vibrant, articulate, courageous and devoted servant of God.
According to him, he has won many souls in the Lord’s vineyard and put smiles on the faces of depraved and less privileged Nigerians.
“As you mark your 70th birthday, may our merciful Lord continue to pour his tremendous blessings, wisdom, protection, guidance and good health upon you beyond measures in the years ahead through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.”
Kukah was born on Aug. 31, 1952 in Anchuna, Ikulu Chiefdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. (NAN)
