THE Adamawa government says it has targeted over one million cattle for vaccination  against zoonotic diseases across the 21 local government areas of  the state.

The Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture Development, Usman Diyajo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Friday, that 1.5 million doses of the vaccines had been provided for the week-long exercise.

He said the exercise is designed to combat Trans-boarder Animal Diseases (TADs), adding the state adopted effective strategies to cover the targeted animals.

He urged cattle breeders and livestock owners to present their animals at the designated vaccination centres across the 266 wards, adding the vaccination was for common diseases like Rinderpests, Pleuropneumonia, among others.

He lauded farmers and hearders for coexisting peacefully, noting that the state achieved harmony in that regard.

“The vaccination campaign demonstrated the importance attached to herders and livestock trade in the state.

“Farmers and herders contribute immensely to the social and economic development of the state, hence the resolve to carry them along in our activities,” he said.

He said the vaccination would guarantee animal health, enhance access to safe meat and milk as well as manure for farming activities.

Dijayo said the state government had initiated pastoral resettlement programme to encourage development of pasture and water sources as part of its livestock transformation plan.

According to him, the plan is geared towards curtailing farmer and hearder clashes in the state. (NAN)
