SOME football fans in the FCT have urged the Super Eagles to be focused and disciplined when they take on the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan, Cote d`Ivoire.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Eagles defeated Guinea Bissau 1-0 in the last group A match to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.
The fans who spoke with the NAN on Thursday, urged the Eagles to show more commitment and determination in order to overcome the Cameroonians.
Haruna Idachaba, a fan of the Eagles, said that the players must play as a team in order to overcome their opponent.
He said that the players who ply their trade with different club sides must understand each other to make a good team.
“The foreign based players need to have played together for some time and blend before going for competition of this magnitude,” he said.
He urged the technical crew to go back to the drawing board having made it to the knockout stage, to strategise and beat their Cameroonian counterparts.
Philip Ekeoba, a fan said that he is always scared when the Super Eagles are meeting a stronger opponent in any tournament in the quarter finals stage.
“ I hope the coach will do the needful and make the necessary corrections before the match. The technical crew and the players need to sit up,“he said.
Sherifat Mudashiru, commended Jose Peseiro for the tactical approach he adopted in the last game of the group stage.
“ They have started to play with more determination to win and putting more pressure on their opponents, they must not relent if we want to win our matches,“she said.
“The performance of the team needs to be strengthened. If we intend to win this tournament, we need to be scoring goals,” She said.
NAN report that the 2023 AFCON which started on Jan.13 is expected to end on Feb. 11.( NAN)
