AFCON 2023 : Former sports commissioner urges Super Eagles to remain focused

ABIYI Odunlade, a former Osun commissioner for sports and Youth Development on Friday in Osun, urged the Super Eagles to remain focused in their remaining games of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Super Eagles on Friday defeated thier Angolan  counterparts  1-0 in the quarter-finals match at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Abidjan Côte d’Ivoire.

Odunlade congratulates the Eagles for defeating the Palancas Negras of Angola.

“It was a good game, congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria we had the chances to score more goals.

“We (the nation) is proud that they did not disappoint us, it was a good outing,”he said .

He urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to continue to  give the team all the necessary supports they need to make the country proud.

“They must be  committed in their remaining games, whoever they will meet in the semi final and final matches will end with a victory.

” I See them winning this year AFCON, these boys are coming back home with the trophy,” he said .

NAN recalls that Eagles played out a 1-1 draw in their first game against Equatorial Guinea, dispatched host, Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, 2-0 in the second game and a 1-0 win over Guinea Bissau in the last group B match.

The three time African champions, defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 2-0 in the round of 16.

The 2023 AFCON which started on Jan. 13 in Cote d’Ivoire is expected to end on Feb. 11. (NAN)
