AFGHAN forces have discovered weapon caches in the southern Helmand and northern Baghlan provinces over the past couple of days, officials said on Wednesday.
In the first achievement, which occurred in the southern Helmand province, personnel of the
General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) or the country’s counter-intelligence agency launched
operations in the Greshk district on Tuesday.
It discovered a weapon cache containing a variety of arms and ammunition, a GDI statement asserted.
The weapons and other equipment included nine Kalashnikovs, four machine guns, a pistol, rocket and
mortar mines, three sets of Walkie-talkies and thousands of bullets and cartridges, the statement added.
Moreover, the GDI personnel have also discovered rocket-propelled grenades, mortar weapons, five stocks
of AK-47s and thousands of bullets from neighbouring Nimroz province.
In a similar search operation, police in the northern Baghlan province found 64 pieces of BM1 missiles on
Monday, the provincial police department said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living
outside security organs.
According to officials, the authorities have collected thousands of pieces of light and heavy
